For those of you that are serious do-it-yourselfers, New Jersey's Best Listing Service is an outstanding alternative to using a real estate agent. www.NJBLS.com provides access to MLS listings and to the alternative (non-MLS) listings used by owners selling their homes directly (instead of via a real estate agent). A very good way to save Thousands of dollars for both buyers and sellers. We typically recommend using professionals for all aspects of a real estate transaction, but you might be comfortable enough with your own set of skills, tools, and knowledge that you want to at least give this approach a try.

Direct Title. This company is owned and operated by an attorney. They can handle all the services associated with a purchase (while saving you money). And they are great for title/closing services for a refinance - again, for less than using a typical attorney.

Remember, in New Jersey a consumer can request a FREE copy of their credit report (1 per year per repository). You can either call the numbers found here or you can use www.AnnualCreditReport.com. This the official site, not one of the many "Free" credit report sites that are really lead generation engines and/or resellers of other credit file services.
